A Swallowtail butterfly flits gracefully through the air, a living jewel in the tapestry of nature. Its wings, a delicate fusion of black and iridescent hues, unfold like fine silk. It reveals a stunning array of blues, yellows, and reds that shimmer in the sunlight. Each wingtip curves elegantly, with delicate elongated tails.
As it hovers among the blossoms, the Swallowtail butterfly’s fragile form seems to embody both strength and vulnerability. The intricate patterns on its wings are akin to nature’s own stained glass. The veins of dark ebony wings creating a mesmerising mosaic. Its slender body, cloaked in velvety black, serves as a perfect contrast to the vibrant display, while its delicate antennae sway gently, sensing the world with an ethereal grace.
I did not realise that the beautiful Swallowtail butterfly is Britain’s largest and I think the most fabulous butterfly. I actually thought it was a tropical butterfly. Often finding an illustration of this beautiful butterfly in older books because they looked like a tropical butterfly and most of the books I read are from a time when exploration of the new worlds were a popular thing to do.
‘Change is a beautiful thing’, said the butterfly.
This quote was the inspiration behind my painting. Change is a beautiful thing and while it can sometimes be challenging, it can provide us with so many rewards. The Swallowtail butterfly reminds us that change is needed to grow and move forward.
In the quiet moments of dawn, when the first light kisses the earth, the Swallowtail butterfly is a herald of beauty and renewal. Its presence transforms a simple garden into an enchanted realm, where the whispers of its wings carry the secrets of summer breezes and the promise of fleeting, yet eternal, wonder.
No one needs to understand your transformation process. They just need to appreciate, enjoy and celebrate that you are on your path to shining your light in the world, just as the appreciate the enchanting beauty of the Swallowtail butterfly..
